Mining

A mine is the natural place of occurrence of a mineral substance (metallic or non-metallic) that has been explored and exploited, and its Latin equivalent is (Mine). The exploitation of mines, the smelting of ores, and the extraction of metals from them date back to ancient times.

Regarding copper, some archaeologists believe that this metal was first recognized and used in Iran. Samples of ore found in Tal-e Iblis in Kerman have an age of about 6,000 years, and the oldest evidence of copper smelting has been obtained from the Sialk region of Kashan, whose antiquity is even greater than that of Tal-e Iblis.

Iran, possessing about 68 types of non-oil mineral substances, 37 billion tons of discovered reserves, and 57 billion tons of potential reserves, ranks among the 15 major mineral powers of the world and is considered one of the rich countries in terms of mineral assets. However, mineral production constitutes only about 0.6 percent of the country's gross domestic product, and mining in Iran is still on the path of development.

Among the most important mines of the country are copper, iron, zinc, lead, gold, silver, nickel, cobalt, chromite, manganese, titanium, uranium, sulfur, and coal mines.

The exploration of mineral substances forms the foundation of the economy and industry of every society. From the beginning of civilization until now, humankind has always exploited mineral substances in accordance with its needs and knowledge, and these substances have provided the basis for the formation of human civilizations.

Today, the exploration and exploitation of mineral substances are carried out using various methods of material analysis, geophysical and geochemical studies, and material processing. In the implementation of exploration projects, attention to environmental considerations is also of special importance.

Razi Metallurgy Research Center, by having advanced laboratory equipment, is ready to provide services such as chemical analysis of mineral substances and determination of their compositions, determination of physical and mechanical properties, particle size analysis, and determination of the degree of metallization. Also, providing consulting services in the field of mineral concentration and implementing production optimization projects and product quality improvement are among the other activities of this center.
