Polymer and Petrochemical

The importance of the petrochemical industry in the national economy is not hidden from anyone. One of the important advantages of Iran's petrochemical industry is the supply of its raw materials within the country. This industry is among the industries in our country that has a relative advantage and plays a key role in economic development.

Iran, as the fourth largest oil producer in the world and the holder of the second largest gas reserves in the world, supplies about 80 percent of its export revenues from oil and gas. It has also been planned that by the end of the current decade, Iran's share of the global petrochemical market will reach 14 percent and the production capacity of petrochemical products will increase to 23 million tons per year.

The petrochemical industry (Petrochemical Industry) is a part of the chemical industries that produces chemical products from raw materials derived from oil or natural gas. Since the early twentieth century, crude oil and natural gas have gained increasing importance as the main raw materials for the production of many compounds required by humankind.

The petrochemical industry is the main supplier of consumer materials required in various industries such as chemical industries, electrical and electronics, textile, medical, automotive, home appliances, food industries, and many other fields.

One of the most important features of the petrochemical industry is its very high added value; in such a way that by performing chemical and physical changes on oil and gas hydrocarbons, the value of products can be increased between 10 to 15 times.

The high diversity of petrochemical products and the supply of raw materials for thousands of downstream industrial units play a very effective role in job creation, earning foreign exchange revenues, and reducing the country's economic dependence.

Razi Metallurgy Research Center has established close cooperation with most petrochemical units and related industries. This cooperation has started from upstream units including refineries and petrochemical complexes and has expanded to midstream, final, and downstream units.

Inspection and quality control of raw materials and products, from refineries to small plastic and rubber component production units, are carried out in the laboratories of this center. Considering the harsh working conditions in petrochemical units and the continuous exposure of equipment to wear and corrosion, the specialized corrosion and failure analysis departments of Razi Metallurgy Research Center cooperate with this industry in numerous projects.
