Polymer Lab Questions
Minimum sample size for polymer analysis?
Size is not critical, minimum 5 grams required.
What information is given when determining polymer base?
Polymer type is determined.
What is included in complete plastic analysis?
Polymer type, general type, mineral additives, softener type and amount. DSC required for mixture or single component.
What is included in complete rubber analysis?
Polymer type, general type, mineral additives, softener type and amount.
Can exact polymer formulation be provided?
Exact formulation cannot be provided.
Sample size for mechanical tests?
Depends on standard and type of test; varies accordingly.
Can oil be determined as new or reused?
No, only certain tests can be performed; cannot determine new/used.
Corrosion & Coating Lab Questions
Does salt spray test predict lifetime of parts?
Salt spray is comparative; cannot predict part lifetime. Used to compare coating quality or resistance.
What is the purpose of UV testing?
UV tests resistance of coatings or polymer/composite to UV light; qualitative and quantitative assessment at end.
How is UV and salt spray test time selected?
Time is based on product standard; otherwise customer specifies.
Specifications of UV weathering device and standard?
UV device with UV340A lamp; ASTM G154 cycle 1 standard used.
Conditions for HIC and SSCC tests?
According to NACE TM0284 and NACE TM0177; HIC 96h, SSCC 720h.
Can coating evaluation be performed on-site?
Yes; adhesion, thickness, hardness, pull-off, impact, Holiday tests can be done on-site.
Can corrosion cause analysis be performed for industrial parts?
Yes; consult "Research Services to Industry" section for details.
How to know corrosion lab test fees?
Check the "Test Fees" section on the website.
Does the center perform polarization tests?
Yes, equipped with potentiostat; electrochemical, impedance, Tafel, and cyclic polarization possible.
Dimensions required for corrosion tests?
Refer to "Test Acceptance Specifications" on the website.
Quantometry Lab Questions
What is Base in a sample?
Element with the highest weight percentage in the sample.
Are there base restrictions for quantometry samples?
Fe, Al, Cu, Zn, Ni, Ti, Co are allowed bases.
Sample size for regular quantometry?
Large samples: minimum 3*3 cm² for thin samples. For thick samples, core must be 3*3 cm² × 1 cm thickness. Consult lab if cutting is limited.
Small samples: Send entire sample.
Can sample cutting be done at the center?
Yes, usually free. If wire cutting or time-consuming, fee applies.
Elements measurable in different bases?
See "Quantometry Elements Coverage" page. Consult lab if missing.
Sample amount for flake preparation?
15-30g recommended; up to 50g if possible.
Is non-destructive quantometry possible?
Yes, with surface sanding; inform during submission.
Which samples require flakes?
1- Cast iron parts except white cast
2- Small Fe or Ni based samples.
If minor deviation from standard occurs, is sample rejected?
Do not rely solely on quantometry; measure elements with precise single-element methods.
